The remains of Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, the first executive governor of Anambra State in the Fourth Republic, have been laid to rest in his hometown of Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Mbadinuju, who died on April 11, 2023, at the age of 78, was buried in his country home amidst a large crowd of mourners, including top dignitaries from the state and beyond.
In a tribute, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo described Mbadinuju as a "visionary leader" who laid the foundation for the modern-day Anambra State. He said Mbadinuju's administration was marked by infrastructural development, social welfare programs, and economic growth.
Mbadinuju was a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and served as governor of Anambra State from 1999 to 2003. He was known for his tough stance on crime and corruption.
He was also a successful businessman and philanthropist. He founded the Chinwoke Mbadinuju Foundation, which provides educational and vocational training to underprivileged youths.
Mbadinuju's death has been mourned by many Anambra State residents, who described him as a man of the people. He will be remembered as a pioneer and a visionary leader who helped to shape the modern-day Anambra State.
